GAAS - Installation Instructions

GAAS is implemented in MS-Visual C++ programming language and interconnected to a relational database system (MasterDB) developed by using MS-Access 2000. Therefore GAAS can be run on MS-Windows 98/NT/2000/XP platforms, or Macintosh running the Virtual-PC software. GAAS capabilities are ensured for single PC and local network installations in MS-Windows environment.

Hardware requirements for running efficiently GAAS depend on the amount of data to process. Expression data from three replica of two experiments (test vs. control condition) with 18408 clones each on a PC Pentium III 1 GHz with 512 MB SDRAM (PC133) and 45 GB U-ATA 100 hard disk (mean access time 8.5 ms) are data structure converted from MS-Excel format in 130 s using the Assembler software, and analyzed in 4 s (28 s for first analysis and disk data loading) using the Analyzer software.

To install properly the GAAS software package, execute the downloadable GAAS.zip file. The unzip operation creates the working directories and copies inside them the required program files. The following directories are generated:

Executing the downloadable FilterData.zip or MicroData.zip files, the unzip operation creates the working data directories and copies inside them the corresponding data test files. The following directories are generated respectively:

If system, label, or data database files are moved from the above mentioned installing directories, the GAAS program automatically asks the user to indicate the new database location through a friendly user-interface.
